Notes:

Clean start from all. Klien pulls off to retire on L2 with a fuel pressure problem. Raikkonen up to 10th by lap 4 having been demoted to 13th on the grid by an engine change on Friday.

Alonso flying while Trulli in 2nd holds up the rest of the field - 10s lead by lap 7. Sato is the first of the front-runners to pit on lap 15. Trulli stays out til lap 18, much to Michael Schumacher's frustration - they both pit together but Ferrari seemed to short-fuel MS to get him back out in front.

Trulli takes on lots of fuel, looks to be two-stopping. Fisichella has a fuel rig problem which allows Button past. Alonso pits on lap 20, emphasising the strength of his qualifying performance with a reasonable fuel load. Raikkonen, yet to stop, has got back to 3rd (where he qualified). The McLarens and Coulthard are the only cars yet to stop.

Coulthard stops on lap 21 and nearly collides with Heidfeld on exiting the pits. Williams are having a dismal weekend, down at the back of the mid-field. The McLarens, clearly two-stopping, are striving to build sufficient lead to pit and come out in front of M Schumacher. Montoya pits first, from 2nd, on lap 25 and comes out JUST in front of Schumacher.

Sato goes wide at the hairpin, trying to pull off a "last of the late brakers" move on Trulli and loses 3 places over the next lap while cleaning his tyres. Raikkonen has kept the hammer down and pits on lap 28, emerging comfortably ahead of team-mate Montoya. Massa pits for second time on lap 29 with a hydraulic problem, but the team work on the car and he returns to the track six laps down, as with Sato in Montreal, trying to secure a better slot for qualifying at Silverstone.

Webber also stops very early for his second stop - he is suffering from high cockpit temperature in his nether regions, or in other words, his bum's burning! A bucket of water from the team and he rejoins the race. Friesacher stops out on the circuit with a left rear puncture. Massa returns to the pits, this time to retire on lap 31. Albers also suffers a tyre failure and ends up in the barriers on lap 38.

Montoya is slowing badly, clearly has a problem, M Schumacher gets past to take 3rd. The team are clearing space in the garage but Montoya's McLaren doesn't make it that far, retiring with hydraulic problems on lap 47.

Button passes Trulli in the second round of pit stops. Heidfeld pits for the third time on lap 47, reporting a handling problem. Back in two laps later, the team change a rear tyre but on inspection it appears to be fine, will be interesting to see if a penalty is imposed at the next race.

Sato goes off the track again, this time on someone else's dust, manages to keep it going through the gravel trap and regains the circuit, but his tyres must have suffered. Heidfeld continues to have problems and eventually finishes 14th after pitting six times! Fisichella, having a fairly lacklustre afternoon compared to team-mate Alonso, stalls in his final pitstop and loses 4th place to Button.

Alonso, in a class of his own, laps everyone up to M Schumacher in 3rd to take his 5th victory of the season. Button scores his first points, let's hope he keeps them this time! Raikkonen finishes in a highly creditable 2nd from 13th on the grid.
