Notes:

Montoya runs over a BAR generator on joining the grid, requiring a new nose - is there any other damage?

Clean start from the leaders, but trouble in the mid-field - Klien gets a nudge which launches him into a roll and out of the race, fortunately unhurt. Alonso is squeezed on the curb, damaging his front wing. Barrichello runs up back of Trulli damaging his front wing and Trulli's rear diffuser.

Later in the lap, Alonso's damage dwing parts company with his car and Coulthard hits it, ending his race. Alonso and Barrichello both pit for repairs at end of lap 1, as does Monteiro from the back.

Raikkonen, unseen by cameras, gets past team-mate Montoya into 2nd behind M Schumacher and the two pull away. Alonso back in 17th after pitstop and making no progress.

As with many races at the Hungaroring, overtaking action was in scarce supply - most position changes happening as a result of retirements or pitstops, the most notable of which was Montoya's retirement from the lead with a drive shaft problem. This handed the race to his team-mate Raikkonen (they appear to be taking turns!)

Massa suffered a small fire in the pits but the team replaced a coil in the engine and got him back out 7 laps down - a worthwhile exercise as first team-mate Villeneuve retired (apparently with the same problem) and then Albers.

Ralf Schumacher took his first podium of the season, with team-mate Trulli behind him in 4th. Button and Sato both finished in the points in 5th and 8th respectively - first point of the year for Sato!
