Notes:

Qualifying penalties:
- M Schumacher had all his lap times deleted and starts last after the stewards deemed he had deliberately stopped his car at the Rascasse depriving his rivals of the opportunity to beat his time.
- Fisichella had his three fastest laps deleted after stewards decided he had impeded Coulthard during qualifying, dropping him to 9th from 5th on the grid.

Race penalties:
- Albers given drive-through penalty for causing an avoidable collision in a first lap incident with his team-mate which left Monteiro having to pit for a new nose.
- Villeneuve given drive-through penalty for overtaking under Safety Car conditions.
- Barrichello given drive-through penalty for speeding in the pitland.
