Notes:
* Webber's pitstop tally includes a stop-go penalty for breach of parc ferme regulations.

Webber and Alonso started from the pit-lane. First start aborted when da Matta stalled on the grid. Second start ... same story! Third time lucky, except for Frentzen who failed to take the start due to a clutch problem.

With the race distance reduced to 69 laps, Verstappen only made it a few yards along the pitlane before losing the throttle after launch control system problems, resulting in a safety car deployment to recover his stranded Minardi.

Michael Schumacher suffered a minor fuel fire during his first stop but recovered to win his third race in succession!

Montoya seemed to be mounting a strong challenge until his engine developed a water leak resulting in retirement on lap 33, the protracted multiple start to the race probably contributing to the engine failure.

Villeneuve drove the first two stints without the aid of his steering wheel electronics which failed on the first lap - the wheel was changed during his second stop after the car stalled and he dropped from a potential points scoring position to finish 12th. His team-mate Button drove a sound race to pick up 5 points, equalling his career best finish.

... more comments may follow when I've actually watched the race!
