Notes:

Heidfeld started from pitlane after failing to set a time in qualifying.

Raikkonen converted his first pole into a solid race lead until his engine blew on lap 26.

Ralf Schumacher got the better of his brother at the start and held on to the position after the pitstops, benefitting from Raikkonen's retirement to take his first win since Malaysia last year.

Villeneuve had a bad start and was lying 19th at the end of lap 1 - he managed to get past the Minardis only to spin and end up at the back again. Once again he worked his way past the Minardis before clipping his front wing on the bollards at the chicane, the subsequent pitstop for a new nose putting him at the back yet again. He made up places again before finally retiring on lap 52.

Montoya pulled off the overtaking manoeuvre of the afternoon, taking Michael Schumacher on the outside of Dunlop - although leaving enough room on the inside, there was a light touch and Schumacher spun off, beaching his Ferrari on the gravel. He kept the engine running and summoned the marshalls to push him back onto the track, eventually finishing 5th - no doubt there will be much debate of the rights and wrongs of this incident!

A well-deserved Williams 1-2, with Barrichello taking his 5th podium finish of the season in 3rd.
