 Notes:

 * Heidfeld's pitstops include drive-thru penalty for ignoring blue flags.

Pizzonia stalled on grid and Raikkonen, starting from the back after going off in Qualifying and failing to set a time, went straight into the back of him. The Safety Car was brought out to clear the debris.

In Turn 2, Coulthard clipped Trulli ending the Italian's race and taking him to the back of the field after pitting for new tyres.

Villeneuve benefitted from the first lap incidents and was running behind his teammate Button in 7th when his engine failed on lap 13.

Coulthard tangled again, this time with Button, and ended up beached in the gravel trap on lap 18. Button had to pit for a new nose, eventually finishing in 9th close behind Firman who took the final points position.

Driver of the day was Alonso, starting 3rd on the grid he barely put a wheel wrong and kept Michael Schumacher honest throughout the race, splitting the two Ferraris to take 2nd in a car with one of the lowest powered engines on the grid - impressive!
