Grid penalties: The Hondas of Barrichello and Button, who qualified 14th and 15th respectively, both start from the back of the grid after engine changes.
Race notes:
Both McLarens are starting from the dirty side of the grid and on the harder tyres, both Ferraris on softs. Clean start but Raikkonen manages to get away quicker and passes Hamilton down to the first turn. Alonso has a bad start, losing out to both BMWs and dropping to 6th. Trulli spun in the first corner having been nudged from behind by Fisichella, dropping almost to the back, but all 22 cars remain on track.

Problem for Webber, who dives into the pits and is pushed back into the garage and presumably into retirement. Looks like yet another hydraulics problem for the Red Bull.

In the first round of stops, the Ferraris stay on softs and Hamilton is the last of the top four to pit, staying on the harder compound and fuelling for a long middle stint. He made up time through the pitstop phase but stays behind the two Ferraris, currently 4th as Kovalainen, yet to pit, leads the race. Alonso has been the major gainer, getting ahead of both BMWs. When Kovalainen finally pits, his longer first stint gets him ahead of Kubica in the BMW.

Disaster for Hamilton as he approaches his final pitstop with a 2nd place finish in his sights ... a right front puncture with tyre rubber flailing and likely to damage his front wing. He makes the pitlane but the front wing endplate is destroyed, hopefully his suspension is one piece. He rejoins in 5th. The damage to his front wing leaves him unable to close the gap on Heidfeld ahead of him, and makes him vulnerable to attack from a hard-charging Kovalainen in 6th.

Kovalainen is closing, but not quickly enough with only 7 laps to go, provided the stresses on Hamilton's car don't aggravate the existing damage.

No change anywhere in the field in the closing laps - a second consecutive victory for Massa at this circuit, having secured his first F1 win here last year. Alonso closing the gap to Hamilton in the drivers' championship. Lowest attrition rate we've seen for a long time. Otherwise, not much to say about this one!
