Pit |
Notes: Webber took no part in qualifying after a crash in practice left his mechanics with a fairly substantial re-build to do.
Buemi crashed out of Q1 at the same place as Webber in practice - Degner - and missed most of the session while repairs were carried out, returning to the track for one flying lap before the end of Q1 and going 4th!
Q2 red-flagged when Alguersuari hits the same barrier at Degner head-on. Slow to get out of the car, doctor in attendance - thankfully climbs out under his own steam, apparently just winded, but will be checked out at the Medical Centre..
Second red flag when Glock goes head-on into the barriers at the final turn - bad weekend for Glock who has been ill with a fever, missing Friday practice. Medical car in attendance again - apparently drivers have been told to stay in their car after an accident until checked by the doctor. Glock extricated from car but has suffered a leg wound, making his participation in tomorrow's race doubtful.
Another accident for Buemi at the end of Q2 nearly compromised the one flying lap for both Brawns - they both made it through into the top 10 but will they face penalties for doing so under a yellow flag?
First few minutes of Q3 and yet another car flies off track at Degner - Kovalainen this time - triggering another red flag. Kovalainen immediately out of the car which is swiftly craned away.
Grid Penalties: In view of the sheer number of penalties following qualifying, I've added a couple of extra columns above. All penalties were 5 slots, and were applied in the order in which the corresponding offences were committed. The reasons were:
- for failing to slow for a yellow flag: Sutil, Barrichello, Button and Alonso
- for impeding other cars while limping back to the pits after his second accident: Buemi
- for a gearbox change: Kovalainen and Liuzzi
- for a chassis change: Glock (not starting following accident) and Webber (starting from the pitlane)
Revised Grid:
