Notes: Monaco - Button crashed heavily in free practice on Saturday morning and although he sustained no serious injuries, his team withdrew him from qualifying. Japan - Villeneuve withdrew from the Japanese GP following the announcement that he had been dropped for 2004 in favour of Takuma Sato, who took up the drive a race early in front of his home crowd.
