Notes:

Trulli's Toyota is wheeled back into the garage, smoking heavily, after completing just 2 laps in the first period of qualifying and setting no time.

Button goes out in first period having been called into the weighbridge after a late first run and not having enough time for a second. Webber is another surprise casualty of the first period.

Coulthard loses out in the second period, claiming Montoya blocked him blatantly. The matter has been referred to the stewards.

The final period sees 2 Renaults, 2 Ferraris, 2 McLarens, 1 Toyota, 1 Honda and perhaps surprisingly 2 BMWs slugging it out for pole.
